We have invited some of the most respected experts in the fields of filming and cinematography to come and share their knowledge with you at the Vitec Live Event at NAB 2012.

Vincent Laforet

Vincent Laforet
Vincent, a three-time winner of the prestigious 2010 Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, is a director and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer who is known for his forward-thinking approach to image-making and storytelling.

In addition to having been commissioned by just about every important international publication - including Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Time, Newsweek and Life - Vincent is considered a pioneer both for his innovative tilt-shift and aerial photography and in the field of HD-capable DSLR cameras. In fact, his short film Reverie, the first 1080p video shot with a still camera, was seen more than 2 million times on the first week of its release in 2009.

Vincent is a member of the Directors' Guild of America and a DP with Local 600.

Philip Bloom

Philip Bloom
BAFTA shortlisted filmmaker who was the DSLR cinematographer on the new Lucasfilm movie "Red Tails"

One of the new breed of cinematographers, embracing the 35mm film adaptor market, shooting on HD video but making it look close to 35mm film. He is credited with helping to popularise the DSLR Video Revolution whereby the process of filmmaking is becoming more democratised because of affordable camera equipment becoming capable of mimicking the image quality of 35mm motion picture film.

He is notable for being one of the first cinematographers to pioneer the use of social networking and the use of affordable, accessible consumer gear to create a worldwide following of filmmakers - both amateurs and professionals alike.

He has built a large internet following by using social networking tools such as blogs, to speak about his daily work and to pass on his knowledge about cinematography, as an authority on the DSLR video movement.

Rodney Charters

Rodney Charters
Rodney Charters has been an Active Member of the American Society of Cinematographers since 2004. Rodney has had a very varied and successful career as a cinematographer. Charters has worked on everything from commercials in London to documentaries in Toronto, winning a Canadian Genie for best cinematography. He has shot in places as varied as the jungles of South America and 4 months in the Soviet Union during the cold war. As a self taught Mac guru, Rodney has embraced the remarkable changes taking place in the technological side of how movies are made. Working on some of the very first morphs to make it to the big screen with VFX Supervisor Jeff Okun on the the picture "Sleepwalkers" he learned to transform humans into cats and Chevy's into Fords. After several years of American TV work in Toronto and Vancouver, Charters made the move to the US for Don Johnson's first season of "Nash Bridges". Charters continued to work steadily on numerous TV Drama's, and several Feature Films such as Psycho IV and The Intern. Famously Charters is the Director of Photography on the highly successful Award winning Fox series "24", which stars Kiefer Sutherland and he is currently filming the new series of Dallas.

Bill Frakes

Bill Frakes
Bill Frakes is a Sports Illustrated Staff Photographer and an a leader in the use of DSLR technology for filmmaking. He has worked in more than 125 countries for a wide variety of editorial and advertising clients.

His advertising clients include Nike, CocaCola, Champion, Isleworth, Stryker, IBM, Nikon, Kodak, and Reebok. Editorially his work has appeared in virtually every major general interest publication in the world.

Bill won the coveted Newspaper Photographer of the Year award in the prestigious Pictures of the Year competition. He was a member of the Miami Herald staff that won the Pulitzer Prize for their coverage of Hurricane Andrew. He was awarded the Gold Medal by World Press Photo.

He has received hundreds of national and international awards for his work.

Keith Blaisdell

Keith Blaisdell
Keith Blaisdell, a Broadcast Director of Technology at WHTM TV in Harrisburg Pa, producing transmissions for ABC, is a veteran of the television industry having worked in every facet of local broadcast television including engineering and newsroom operations, microwave, and satellite transmission. His experience encompasses more than two decades working first as a field photojournalist, producer, news operations manager across engineering and news departments, assistant news director, and news director. He has designed, developed and implemented multiple region wide microwave systems. Mr. Blaisdell is a recognized industry expert in broadcast operations and workflow strategies. His teams have been multiple recipients of TV Technology Awards, while his personal work has won numerous Associated Press Awards, six National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy awards in the areas of General News, Individual Craft-Photography, Spot News Coverage, and Best Newscast.

Doug Jensen

Doug Jensen
Doug Jensen, an award winning TV/video professional with over thirty years of experience as a director of photography, producer, editor, and consultant. His list of clients and credits that includes all of the US broadcast networks, most major cable channels, and many Fortune 500 corporations. Doug is on the faculty at Maine Media Workshops and is also the owner of Vortex Media, where he has written and produced a series of popular instructional videos and field guides on the topics of high-definition XDCAM camcorders, digital photography, and television lighting. Doug's latest production for Vortex Media is a ninety-minute instructional video called "How to Set up and Shoot Awesome Interviews with LED Lights". Doug will be giving a preview of this educational video at the Vitec Live event on Weds 16th April 2pm-3pm

Freddie Wong

Freddie Wong
Freddie Wong and his colleague Brandon Laatsch are American filmmakers and VFX artists. They co-founded the "FreddieW" YouTube channel, with a total of 545 million video views and over 2.9 million subscribers. They have collaborated with various Hollywood artists, and with videogame development companies and are spearheading the online film making/viral media revolution. Among his recent activities they shot a promotional viral video with Jon Favreau for Universal's "Cowboys and Aliens," created a video for Samsung entitled "Gamer Commute" which was rated one of the top 5 viral tech ads of 2011, and produced, co-directed, and acted in a TV commercial for Battlefield 3 at the request of Electronic Arts.

David Linstrom

David Linstrom
David Linstrom is an Emmy Award winning cinematographer and director with more than 20 years of experience making television for PBS, National Geographic, Discovery and more. In 2011 Dave directed 2 episodes for National Geographic's Explorer, shot a series of commercials for DuPont, filmed the digging of mammoths and mastodons in Colorado and travelled to the Arctic for a polar bear survey. He's also worked on a few reality TV shows with Mark Burnett: from the first Survivor in 2000 to Sarah Palin's Alaska in 2010. He's currently shooting a film for the Earth Summit Plus 20 which is taking him to Costa Rica, Brazil and Ecuador.

Jim Geduldick

Jim Geduldick
Jim Geduldick is a cinematographer,editor,visual effects artist . Jim got his start in filmmaking through his first passions skateboarding and snowboarding. Learning to look at things differently as a skateboarder and snowboarder really shaped his approach to what he does today.

Geduldick has embraced experimental & emerging technologies in both the practical and digital aspects of filmmaking and post production leading him to be an early adopter and consultant for the cinematography and post/vfx community.

Jim has worked in all aspects of the business from music videos to feature films and documentaries. In recent work he has been on both sides of the industry behind the camera and behind the editor/vfx artist chair. Some of that recent work has been for LG, Gizmodo, Tronic Studios, Goldrun, Mercedes-Benz and 2011's breakout film from Brain Farm Cinema and Redbull's "The Art of Flight"

Bui Brothers

Bui Brothers
The Bui Brothers are photographers and cinematographers specializing in online media and promotional photography. The brothers, Lan and Vu, adopted DSLR video shooting as soon as it existed (with the Nikon D90) and, with Smashface Productions, shot the first US television commercial on the Canon 5D mark II. They teach DSLR video shooting and online media creation to professionals in numerous industries and continue to educate individuals and businesses via their talks at conferences and tradeshows around the world. They have shot commercials, behind-the-scenes productions, web shows, promotional videos and photos for small businesses and interviews both for television and web.

David Finch

David Finch
30 years as lead handheld camera operator for CBS Sports, David Finch has defined the use of the handheld. From the days of loaded, cumbersome cameras that weighed almost as much as the operator to today's versatile minis, he has changed the look of sports on TV. Pioneering the now-standard shot of walking alongside a golfer, Finch single-handedly - or single-shoulder-edly - changed the way golf is shown on television. He has recently been inducted into the Sports broadcasting Hall of Fame.

In addition to his work on golf courses around the world, Finch has made his mark on NFL, NBA, USTA, NASCAR, and NCAA basketball broadcasts, as well as three winter Olympics (Albertville, France; Lillehammer, Norway; and Nagano, Japan). His experience makes him one of the most versatile camera operators in the business.

The way in which Finch frames his shots has shaped the next generation of camera operators, both at CBS Sports and beyond. His talents in live sports and ENG are legendary throughout the business. The premier shooter for a multitude of award-winning features and the standard-bearer of the handheld era, David Finch has forever changed the look of sports production.

Tom Morrod

Tom Morrod
Tom is the senior principle analyst for TV and broadcast technology at IHS Screen Digest and IHS iSuppli . Tom is responsible for all research across professional video technology, video distribution, technical service delivery employed by service providers and video consumer electronics. Tom has been the project lead for every version of the IABM's seminal report on the broadcast and media technology industry, having co-authored the report's first edition in 2006 shortly after joining Screen Digest. Tom has presented at numerous international conferences over the years, contributed articles to many newspapers and trade magazines, and worked as a consultant and advisor to many of the largest technology, consumer electronics, content creation and distribution companies in the world, as well as to the investor and legal community involved in these industries.Specific topics of research include studio and capture equipment, professional storage, transmission and distribution, managed service for professional video, broadcaster and pay TV operator delivery, multiscreen and multi-platform distribution, set-top boxes and professional CPE, television sets and retail hardware, as well as specific work on IP and licensing.

Bill Berner

Bill Berner
Bill has nearly 30 years experience as a director, director of photography, and lighting designer in the fields of broadcast and cable television, live theater, and live event production on MTV, Nickelodeon. He was the lighting designer on the renowned educational series Sesame Street, for which he garnered three daytime emmy awards, as well as five additional nominations. He has also worked on other high profile productions such as the Cosby show, Sesame Street, Late night with David Letterman, 1992 summer Olympic games, and 1996 summer Olympic games.
